Letter to INTERPOL on the arrest of Ahmed Mansar

June 22, 2015 - INTERPOL, red notice

Fair Trials have written to INTERPOL, urging them to clarify publicly what role they had if any regarding the arrest of the Egyptian Al-Jazeera journalist Ahmed Mansar. Ahmed's arrest in Germany on 20th June 2015 at the request of the Egyptian authorities, raises serious concerns over the seemingly politically motivated use of the Criminal Justice System by the Egyptian authorities to restrict the journalistic activity of freedom of speech.

Fair Trials previously wrote to INTERPOL last year regarding the in absentia conviction of several Al-Jazeera Journalists located outside Egypt. Fair Trials expressed serious concern that Egyptian authorities may use INTERPOL to seek the return of the journalists and asked INTERPOL to prevent this from happening.
