Dr. Demetra Fr. Sorvatzioti is an Associate Professor in the Law School of the University of Nicosia. She is member of the Bar Association in both Greece and Cyprus and has practiced law as defense counsel since 1990. She has worked as an expert on Greek criminal procedure in European Arrest Warrant cases. Dr. Sorvatzioti is a member of the Advisory Board of Fair Trials' network of criminal justice experts, the Legal Experts Advisory Panel.
Her expertise encompasses comparative criminal law, evidence and sentencing, human rights, and European fair trial rights. She has participated in numerous international conferences.
Her publications include: "The Poverty of Justice"; "Sexual offenders: The crime and the Sentence" with A.Magganas; "Burden of Proof and L’intime conviction: Is the Continental Criminal Trial Moving to the Common Law?" with A.
