Madrid will host LEAP Annual Conference 2027
The conference will reunite over 60 delegates across Europe
Fair Trials is delighted to announce the new edition of the Legal Experts Advisory Panel (LEAP) Conference in Madrid (Spain), next February 26–27.
The hosting of the LEAP 2027 Annual Conference in Madrid comes at a delicate time for the rule of law and the right to a fair trial in Spain.
On one hand, the 2024 Organic Law on the Right of Defence has consolidated key defence guarantees in a single framework; on the other hand, the justice system, and specifically the legal aid system, remains underfunded. Spain is also experiencing unprecedented public questioning of its judicial independence. Recent high-profile proceedings involving key state figures have become arenas for intense political polarisation.
Hosting the LEAP Annual Conference 2027 in Madrid offers a vital and timely platform to address how to safeguard the independence of key democratic institutions, and ensure that the right to a robust, well-resourced defence remains a practical reality in an era of the judicialisation of politics.
Limited seats available
The LEAP Annual Conference is an event exclusively for LEAP members. There are 60 seats available, and selection will be based on geographical diversity, gender balance, representation, and active participation throughout the year.
