Michele Panzavolta
Michele Panzavolta is Professor of Criminal Law and Cybercrime at the Faculty of Law and Criminology of the KU Leuven (Belgium), following a previous appointment as associate professor. At KU Leuven he also served as Vice-Dean for international affairs. He previously held positions as Assistant Professor at the University of Maastricht and as post-doctoral researcher at the University of Bologna, where he also obtained his degree. He is an expert in criminal law, with particular expertise in European and comparative criminal law, supported by his teaching experience in various national legal systems across different countries.
His research focuses on criminal procedure, with specific attention to procedural rights of suspects, asset confiscation, and judicial cooperation. He has led numerous externally funded European research projects in these fields. In addition, he has acted as a consultant to the Italian Parliament and the World Bank, and regularly contributes to institutional evaluations on the implementation of European law.
A qualified Italian attorney (registered with the Bar of Bologna), he has also extensive practical experience in criminal law, having worked as a practicing lawyer for approximately 10 years.
