On 1 June 2020, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced that CPS West Midlands Magistrates' Court unit successfully prosecuted 78 COVID-19 related cases from March to May.
The CPS gave examples of defendants who were convicted of COVID-19 related offences, which comprised of police and emergency workers and key workers being assaulted, threatened, or coughed at by people claiming to have coronavirus.
