On 28 July 2020, the Law Society of Scotland published the results of a survey on criminal law practitioners' experience with virtual custody courts during the COVID-19 pandemic. 81% of the respondents were dissatisfied or very dissatisfied with the client consultation process, while 78% of the respondents experienced problems in arranging client consultation and obtaining sight of the papers. The respondents indicated that more investment in technology is needed, to ensure that the accused can adequately follow the proceedings.
