Short Update: Video calls to be introduced to prisons and young offender institutions in England & Wales

On 15 May, the Ministry of Justice ("MoJ") and Her Majesty's Prison and Probate Service ("HMPPS") announced that secure video calls will be introduced to prisons and young offender institutions ("YOIs") across England and Wales. The purpose of the technology is to support prisoners and young offenders maintain contact with their families during the coronavirus pandemic. The technology was originally trialled at HMP Berwyn and has now been installed 10 institutions with a wider rollout in the coming weeks.
