Short Update: UK publishes new procedure for custody time limit cases

FairTrialsAdmin - April 7, 2020 - COVID-19 Updates, Delayed or accelerated proceedings, Remote Justice, Extended pre-trial detention

On 27 March 2020, HMCTS and the CPS published guidance on how custody time limit (CTL) cases would be dealt with amid coronavirus restrictions. It includes delaying the listing of CTL cases where a trial date has yet to be set, sets out the procedure for extension of CTLs, and provides that such an application to extend may be heard via audio link or video link. It provides that coronavirus itself is "good and sufficient cause" to extend a CTL.
