Short Update: UK prisons to allow visits again

FairTrialsAdmin - July 15, 2020 - COVID-19 Updates, prison conditions

On 9 July 2020, the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) announced that close family members and partners can now visit prisoners in some prisons. The MoJ noted that for those who are unable to physically visit, there are other ways of contacting someone in prison, such as leaving voicemails using the Prison Voicemail Service. Moreover, as a temporary measure, secure phone handsets will be given to prisoners at 55 prisons, allowing them to speak to a small number of pre-authorised contacts.
