On 31 July 2020, HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) released its latest weekly COVID-19 statistics in the prisons, updated to 24 July 2020. Since 17 July, one further prison or youth custody service site has confirmed cases of COVID-19.
There have been 44 deaths since the start of the pandemic among HMPPS service users. No COVID-19 deaths were recorded since 29 May 2020.
530 prisoners have tested positive for COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, with the number of new confirmed cases increasing by fewer than 10 each week since 19 June. 253 prisoners have been released under COVID-19 temporary release schemes.
