John Apter, Chairman of the Police Federation, released a statement calling for protests to be banned during the COVID-19 pandemic. The statement came after a second weekend of protests, where more than 100 people were arrested. 23 officers were injured in London after being attacked by demonstrators.
While gatherings of more than six people are already banned under the current coronavirus regulations, John Apter called for the Home Secretary to be unequivocal in her terms that any protests or large gatherings should be banned during the pandemic.
