On 4 May UK House of Commons Justice Committee met to assess the impact of COVID-19 on courts and legal professions. The meeting was held after barristers had alerted the Bar Council that the system of justice has “ground to a halt” as social distancing and illness have caused court closures and delays.
In the course of the hearing The Committee took evidence from professional bodies, non-for-profit organizations, legal professionals and the Ministry of Justice. A video record of the hearing is available on the UK Parliament’s website.
On 14 April the Justice Committee held a similar meeting on the impact of COVID-19 on prison, probation and court systems. Full transcript of that meeting is available on UK Parliament’s website.
