It was reported that six prison inmates were wrongly released from prison under the temporary release scheme instituted by the government in response to coronavirus. This has resulted in the suspension of the release scheme under which the government planned temporarily to release up to 4000 inmates. The six prison inmates were released from Leyhill (Gloucestershire) and Sudbury (Derbyshire) prisons, which are open category D establishments, and from the Isis category C prison (south-east London). The men have since returned 'compliantly' to the various institutions and the Prison Service is working to strengthen the systems and controls around the prisoner release scheme.
