Short Update: UK Commons Justice Committee launches future of legal aid inquiry

FairTrialsAdmin - September 18, 2020 - COVID-19 Updates, Access to a lawyer, Remote Justice

The House of Commons Justice Committee announced the launched of an inquiry (with submissions required by Monday 19 October at 5pm) in light of the concerns raised during the coronavirus pandemic about pressures on the legal aid system. The inquiry seeks to identify the major challenges facing the legal aid sector in the future, in particular the impact of COVID-19 and the increasing reliance on digital technology to provide legal advice and court services.
