Short Update: UK College of Policing announces new measures for police force recruitment during COVID-19

On 30 April, the College of Policing announced new measures for recruiting an additional 20,000 officers during the COVID-19 pandemic which will allow former police officers and existing student officers to be deployed. Former police officers will be required to undergo an assessment and will receive emergency training where there are gaps in their knowledge or skills. The announcement also explains that biometric vetting will be used on new officers to obtain DNA and fingerprints to ensure that have not previously come to adverse police attention or are linked to any outstanding criminal situations. In addition, a new online assessment process has been devised which will be remain in place until the end of 2020.
