Short Update: UCLA develops comprehensive spreadsheet to track prison confirmed cases and deaths

FairTrialsAdmin - April 29, 2020 - COVID-19 Updates, prison conditions, Prison monitoring

In March 2020, in the face of the increasing danger posed by COVID-19 to people held in jails and prisons, the UCLA Prison Law and Policy Program launched the UCLA COVID-19 Behind Bars Data Project. The project tracks the spread of COVID-19 in jails and prisons, as well as the efforts to decrease jail and prison populations and improve conditions to ensure the safety of residents and staff.

As of 29 April, it had registered 15,204 confirmed cases of inmates and 206 deaths. There were also 5,301 confirmed cases and 25 deaths among prison staff. The spreadsheet is updated every day.
