Around 1,000 people have been arrested for violating the state of alarm in Spain which requires residents to stay at home except for necessary purposes. In addition to the arrests, more than 100,000 fines have been issued for lower level violations of the order. These measures appear to have popular support even from residential balconies from which residents are calling the police on individuals they see out and about.
