Short Update: Spanish courts close and limit activities to urgent matters

FairTrialsAdmin - March 30, 2020 - COVID-19 Updates, Court closures

Courts across Spain have postponed all court activities and procedural deadlines with the exception of urgent matters. Additionally, statutes of limitations and deadlines for legal actions have been suspended throughout the country during the state of alarm regarding Covid-19.

Matters that are considered urgent and non-postponable include those relating to prison monitoring, the protection of minors, and protective measures regarding violence against women. Additionally, trials that involve the protection of fundamental rights and other protective measures will continue.

Attorneys who file documents which the courts ultimately deem to be non-urgent may be subject to a fine.
