Short Update: Spanish army set to enforce new lockdown restrictions in Madrid

FairTrialsAdmin - September 23, 2020 - COVID-19 Updates, Rule of Law

Lockdown restrictions have been imposed in some parts of Madrid, prompting protests over the weekend against what residents described as discrimination against the poor, since the restrictions apply to, mostly, poor districts. The regional governor for the capital requested help from the Spanish army to strengthen local police and law enforcement.

According to The Independent, 850,000 people living in 37 districts in Madrid have been barred from leaving their neighbourhoods as of yesterday, except for work, family care of legal obligations, as the number of infections surge in the capital.
