On 17 April, Scottish authorities announced plans to allow mobile phones in Scottish prisons to maintain contact between people in custody and their families during coronavirus, given the suspension of prison visits. This is a move to support the mental health and wellbeing of those in custody. The phones will be restricted, in view of security concerns, in the way that prison landlines are. Other measures for prisoners' wellbeing include additional phone credit, suspension of TV rental fees and expansion of in-cell entertainment option.
