Although Irish lower courts are continuing to hear criminal cases in person, the appeal courts are trialing remote hearings and jury trials have been adjourned for the time being.
In a statement delivered on 20 April, the Irish Chief Justice suggested that physical trials were continuing because of a lack of existing technological base in Ireland across the courts and the requirement of urgency.
