Short Update: NYC prisons heavily affected by COVID-19

In New York City 1259 guards have been infected by the virus and six have died. Three inmates have died in custody and two died within hours of being released.

363 of the 3,900 inmates left in the city’s jails have tested positive for the coronavirus. Correction officers and union leaders claimed that protective measures came too late for many of them.
