Short Update: MOJ and HMCTS issue press release on new technology to keep criminal justice system operating during the pandemic

FairTrialsAdmin - May 5, 2020 - COVID-19 Updates, Remote Justice

On 30 April 2020, the Ministry of Justice ("MOJ") and HM Courts and Tribunal Service ("HMCTS") issued a press release which provided information on the use of the 'Kinly Cloud Video Platform' ("CVP") which has enabled criminal hearings to be conducted remotely during the pandemic. The technology connects securely to the existing judicial video network which links police stations and prisons to court. The press release confirmed that this CVP will initially be rolled out to 60 magistrates' courts and 48 crown courts.
