The Metropolitan Police has released figures for the number of fines or Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) that it has imposed on people under COVID-19 regulations. These figures show that police have disproportionately targeted Black and Asian people in London with fines.
The Met gave 48.6% of COVID-19 fines (FPNs) to Black & Asian people, despite them only making up 30% of London's population. Black people were given 26% of fines, while only 12% of London’s population is black. White people, who make up 59% of London’s population, were given only 45.6% of fines.
This follows the police disproportionately targeting ethnic minorities with fines across the UK.
