A US detained person who had been on California’s death row since 2001 died on 7 July at an outside hospital from what appear to be complications related to COVID-19. California's Governor has imposed an official moratorium on death penalty since March 2019, with no executions taking place since 2006. Reports indicate that at least 6 persons on the death row have died from coronavirus infection in California.
