Lawyers in the Netherlands have been calling for more prisoners to be released to prevent the spread of COVID-19, but the Ministry of Justice has reportedly been reluctant to do so, relying more on social distancing measures within prisons. Many prisoners have been refused release partially because of a shortage of electronic tagging equipment, which is often a condition of early released.
