Short Update: Ireland announces increase in Direct Provision accommodation as an emergency response to COVID-19

FairTrialsAdmin - April 8, 2020 - COVID-19 Updates, Prison conditions

Ireland's Department for Justice and Equality's press release from 31 March 2020 announced the procurement of an additional 650 new beds to support international protection applicants during the COVID-19 crisis. The provision aims to protect the health and wealth of asylum seekers and refugees utilising Ireland's 'Direct Provision' services. The new beds will be in hotels based in Dublin, Galway and Cork and will support vulnerable residents to adhere to self-isolation measures off-site.
