Short Update: Hungarian Ministry of Justice clarifies that defence lawyers may meet with their clients despite social distancing measures

FT Admin - March 27, 2020 - COVID-19 Updates, Access to a lawyer

The Hungarian government issued a decree on 27 March 2020, restricting the movement of people by requiring social distancing and by ordering certain curfew-type measures. The question arose how this affects the work of defence lawyers. The Hungarian Bar Association approached the Ministry of Justice in this regard, and the Ministry of Justice replied that beyond appearing before the authorities, attorneys may meet their clients also for consulting before criminal procedure acts and for signing retainers, among others.
