Short Update: Greece suspends most court proceedings

FairTrialsAdmin - March 30, 2020 - COVID-19 Updates, Court closures

Greece suspended court proceedings on 13 March. This includes almost all criminal proceedings with a few exceptions. Felony cases where the length of time the accused has been incarcerated is nearing the limit for pre-trial detention (18 months) will still be heard. Judges will also continue to interrogate suspects caught in the act of committing a felony; for misdemeanours the accused will face “fast track” proceedings.

The suspension was initially to be in place until 27 March but has been extended to 10 April.
