European Prison Observatory has issued the fourth COVID-19 update on prisons in Europe. It covers updates on implementation of COVID-19-related public health measures in prisons of Greece, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom. European Prison Observatory reports include unrests in prisons in Greece due to inadequate measures being put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in prisons. In all states the number of infected prison inmates and staff continues to grow, with Spanish prisoners and lawyers requesting releases on account of inhuman treatment. A worrying trend is reported in the United Kingdom, which has increased the number of prisoners held in single cells.
