Short Update: Eight further Nightingale Courts announced in England and Wales

FairTrialsAdmin - September 23, 2020 - COVID-19 Updates, Court closures, Delayed or accelerated proceedings

HM Courts and Tribunals Service has announced the opening of eight further 'Nightingale Courts' to tackle the backlog in criminal (as well as civil and family) cases caused by the pandemic. Three will be open from next week with the five remaining sites to be confirmed in the coming weeks. The new courts will hear a number of cases, including non-custodial crime cases. Magistrates' courts are now hearing more cases than they receive, reducing the backlog.
