A Spanish court has freed accused people pending trial in a large corruption case. The court reasoned that the confinement order in place in Spain reduced the risk of that the defendants would flee (in conjunction with other travel restrictions including passport relinquishment). The court also found that the case would face serious delays given interruptions to court procedures as a result of COVID, and that a lengthy period of pre-trial detention could not be accepted as a result.
