On 16 July 2020, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced the results of a review of prosecutions completed in June under the Coronavirus Act and Health Protection Regulations. The CPS found that 99 out of 141 charging decisions were made correctly.
Among the 42 charges that were made erroneously, there are 4 cases in which Welsh regulations had been used in England or vice versa, 2 cases for which there was insufficient evidence to demonstrate that the Health Regulations were breached, and 36 charges under the Coronavirus Act which were discontinued because there was no evidence that they applied to potentially infectious people.
