All the youth detention centres of the City of Buenos Aires have registered positive cases of coronavirus in recent days. Some of the known positive cases correspond to a 16-year-old boy, two nurses and a security agent. Another minor tested positive at the Admission and Referral Centre (CAD), which is the first place a minor goes to after being detained for a criminal case.
As a result, there are 56 people, including two minors, who were isolated after being in contact with those infected. The situation led to requests for massive testing and other measures by public entities that work to protect the rights of minors.
According to media outlets, the first case occurred in early May at the San Martín institute, where one of the nurses tested positive for coronavirus. She had contact with other employees of the place and with one of the detained minors. All were isolated although they did not present symptoms.
