Short Update: Courts in the Czech Republic permitted to defer prison sentences

admin - April 10, 2020 - COVID-19 Updates, Prisoner releases

Under Czech law [Criminal Code, § 322, 323 and 339], prison sentences may be deferred or suspended for a specified period of time because of health conditions or other important reasons. In the current circumstances this law is being interpreted broadly to include pending public health concerns and quarantine requirements. This is partially because prisons and other detention facilities cannot accommodate inmates who require quarantine or hospitalization.
