President Bolsonaro vetoed the mandatory use of masks in Brazilian prisons units in Law 14,019/20. If passed, this law would have mandated the use of masks in establishments as a preventive measure against COVID-19. The National Congress is currently reviewing the veto to discuss whether it will be accepted. States, municipalities and the Federal District still have the autonomy to issue specific laws on this matter according to the local needs, so local laws may still regulate the use of masks in prison units.
