A Brussels police officer has been sentenced (in French) to a year in prison for an unprovoked attack on an 18-year old migrant during an operation to implement the ban on assembly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The incident occurred when police officers carried out an aggressive check on migrants and homeless people staying at a hotel which had welcomed them during the pandemic. The police officer pushed the migrant against a wall, pepper sprayed their eyes, and destroyed his phone with his baton.
