The Independent has conducted an analysis of official figures regarding the number of fines enforcing the coronavirus restrictions imposed by police forces across the country. It was found that there are significant differences between police forces, with some forces approximately eighty times more likely to impose penalties than others. This was criticised by Kirsty Brimelow QC, on the basis that “[y]our treatment by the police should not be dependent upon your postcode”.
