The CPS has published an interim charging protocol setting out how charging should be managed during the COVID-19 crisis. It identifies three categories of cases: immediate, high profile cases, and other cases. It labels COVID-19 related offences as “immediate cases.” Immediate cases are defined as those where the police or other investigators are seeking a charging decision followed by a remand in custody.
