Short Update: 29 COVID-19 related deaths in Argentinian prisons since March

FT Admin - September 11, 2020 - COVID-19 Updates, Prison conditions, Prisoner releases

In Argentina, 29 prisoners have died of COVID-19 related conditions since the pandemic hit the country in March 2020.

The adjunct interim prison attorney general, Ariel Cejas Meliare, said that the situation had been made worse because of the failure to follow a recommendation by the appeals court (Cámara de Casación) that judges should grant house arrest to people at risk or those convicted of non-violent crimes.
