Cristinel Buzatu

Legal Consultant

Cristinel Buzatu is a Romanian human rights lawyer and a member of the Bucharest Bar. He holds an LL.B. and an LL.M. in Human Rights Law, and gained academic and professional experience in Romania, the United States, Hungary, and India. At Fair Trials, he works as a consultant, conducting legal research on criminal law and fundamental rights, with a particular focus on pre-trial detention, mutual trust instruments, and procedural rights.

He is a member of the Romanian team of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency’s FRANET network and has worked as a consultant with UNDP, the World Bank, and numerous national and international NGOs. His expertise covers a range of human rights issues, including detention conditions, defence rights, and fundamental freedoms. He also serves as an external lecturer at the University of Bucharest.
