Chryssa Mela

Director

Chryssa Mela is the Director of Fair Trials, where she leads the organisation’s work to advance fair trial rights and strengthen criminal justice systems across Europe and beyond. She provides strategic leadership across the organisation’s legal, policy, advocacy, fundraising, and operational work, guiding its programmes and partnerships while representing Fair Trials before European and international institutions.

Before becoming Director, she served as Senior Legal and Policy Officer at Fair Trials, helping shape the organisation’s legal and policy programmes and supporting its organisational growth. She holds an LLM in Public International Law from the University of Amsterdam and an Advanced Master’s in EU Interdisciplinary Studies from the Université libre de Bruxelles.

An attorney-at-law with the Athens Bar Association, Chryssa has dedicated her career to translating legal expertise into collective action: leading teams, coordinating international initiatives, building partnerships, and using legal research, trial monitoring, and advocacy to advance human rights.
