Short Update: UK’s failed Contact Tracing App to be repurposed

FairTrialsAdmin - August 6, 2020 - COVID-19 Updates, Surveillance

The UK government’s ‘Contact-Tracing App’ is to be repackaged. It will no longer be able to carry out any automatic contact tracing, but it will instead only provide users with information about infection levels in their local area. The app will also allow users to provide data to calculate a personal risk score.

This follows controversies around previous contact-tracing models proposed by the government which prompted criticisms around privacy violations.
