Greece has extended the closure of its courts, meaning the suspension of most criminal proceedings - with the same exceptions set forth since the beginning of the suspension - until 31 May. This extension has taken place by virtue of the Common Ministerial Decision dated 15.5.2020 (in Greek).
According to Article 4 para. 4 of the aforementioned Common Ministerial Decision, the secretariats of the courts return to their fully operational status. Specific issues relating to the proper conduct of their work or issues considered to be of an emergent nature, will be dealt with in accordance with decisions issued by the managing bodies of the court’s secretariats.
By virtue of Article 4 para. 5 of this Common Ministerial Decision, conferences and other acts regarding the function of the justice and public prosecutor’s services will take place, since it is possible, remotely with the use of technology. Finally, for the purpose of facilitating the updating of the concerned parties, of the witnesses and of the defendant’s lawyers the interruption of any trial and the reschedule of the hearing date will be communicated by the court clerk to the Bar Association of the Court’s seat and, if the Court has a website, the new hearing date will be uploaded to it as well.
