Short Update: Bogota issues over 3,500 subpoenas for quarantine violations over a single weekend

FairTrialsAdmin - August 3, 2020 - COVID-19 Updates, New criminal offences, Extended police powers

The first weekend of August saw Bogota police issue 3,535 subpoena orders against people who failed to follow quarantine rules, primarily for non-compliance with isolation measures. Nearly a fifth of these were issued in three localities that had been placed under a strict quarantine starting on 31 July.

Authorities also broke up parties and prohibited gatherings after complaints from neighbours, with one of these resulting in a brawl that injured three officers. Quarantine enforcement patrols also led to the arrests of suspects caught red-handed, mostly during robberies.
