Defending theHuman Rightto a Fair Trial
November 24, 2016
We’re really excited to launch a powerful new animation which shows what happens when fair trial rights are ignored. Entitled a world without fair trials, it uses bold visuals and a fast-paced narrative to illustrate the devastating effects that result from unfair trials. It’s the result of a brilliant creative collaboration between Fair Trials and Tripstitch, a trio of animation students from London’s Royal College of Art.
We’ve also launched a microsite which expands on the themes explored by the animation and introduces people to the main challenges facing fair trials around the world. Click here to visit it and learn more about the different fair trial rights that exist to protect you.
One of the aims of the animation is to build an awareness of the importance of the right to a fair trial, and that’s where we need your help. The more people that watch it and learn about our work, the stronger our movement for fairer criminal justice systems becomes.
The process behind the animation is innovative and inventive: it’s shot in a “single take” which means that during filming the camera stayed in the same place, while the sets were incrementally moved between each frame. Each set is constructed out of a single shade of bold coloured paper, using complex lighting techniques to give depth and variation. This is a unique approach to animation, which powerfully centres the focus on our protagonist, a clay model who is the victim of sustained injustice.
